December 3rd, 2023 - 3PM-5PM Six months after the launch of Place Matters, a constellation of speaker series on everything from design to gastronomy to regional science, we pause to reflect on our conception of place and what we have learned, imagined, and clarified about belonging to and living in this community. Until now, our structure has consisted of three spokes: Life by Design, Makers Among Us and Sonoma Science. Together, these monthly gatherings have helped to trace geographies and topographies of natural and built environments and have prompted us to consider (and expand) our definitions of place. Now we bring the threads together. Considering Place gathers makers, designers and scientists in one single event in hopes of finding patterns, connections, and a bit of the unexpected. Dec 15 and 16 - 7pm Dec 17 - 2pm Kick off your holiday season with a Petaluma tradition: Capote and Thomas.Dylan Thomas's prose poem, A Child's Christmas in Wales, is a lush description of a Welsh Christmas. It is both a beautiful and poignant work. "Bring out the tall tales now that we told by the fire as the gaslight bubbled like a diver. . . ."Then, enjoy this delightful interpretation of Truman Capote's early work. In his 1956 story, A Christmas Memory, Capote remembers when he was 10 years old and it was "fruitcake weather." His holiday rituals are painted with loving and nostalgic strokes, becoming a truly memorable experience for all ages. Here is the link for tickets: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/61382162
